WH40K
I can't say if they were actually able to play, but it looks impressive.
WH40K
Tube asked me to take these pictures.
WH40K
Scratch-built ork gargant.
WH40K
Hey! There's an empty spot on the table. Oh wait, he's going for reinforcements.
WH40K
Reaver titan, I believe.
WH40K
And a Warhound. I think they wrote those out of the game later on.
WH40K
Warhound looks bigger than the Reaver? Perils of scratch-building, I guess.
Terminators
The original terminators from Space Hulk. I replaced the antennas, though.
Terminators
Strangely, these are much worse models than the stealers -- stiff single pose, molded in one part results in clearly evident lack of undercuts...
Terminators
Even the flamer add-on is a bit cheesy.
Terminators
Originally, I planned to put white stars there, but then I realized I did not have any in the correct scale so I put these in instead.
Terminators
The numbers are Epic decals I got cheap, the flame symbol is from Veni Vidi Vici.
Terminators
I did this squad first. Then I decided to change the color scheme slightly to be able to tell the squads apart and went with the red lining on the other one. Perhaps a bit too drastic for a change.
Terminators
White squad.
Terminators
Closeup on two whites.
Terminators
Another two.
Terminators
The white squad.
Terminators
One view from the back, even though that really the poorest part of these miniatures. The back's practically hollow, you have to paint it dark or people will notice.
Space Hulk
The blips converge on the marines.
Space Hulk
The empty hulk awaits...
Space Hulk
Marines advance.
Space Hulk
Casualties start to pile up...
Space Hulk
Ouch, this is not pretty.
Space Hulk
Run, run, RUN! And touchdown! Nice thing about Space Hulk, at least playing the humans, is that right down to the last moves you have this nagging feeling that you are not going to make it...
Space Hulk
New game begins. Marine squads try to link up to transfer the C.A.T. unit to safety. I choose a delaying tactic to hold the exit route open.
Space Hulk
The flamer guy stays behind to block the corridor, while the relief column rushes forward.
Space Hulk
CAT team sets up a delaying ation of their own.
Space Hulk
Ok, looking good so far... actually, the first time we played this game the CAT team leader made a critical mistake at this stage that immediately lost the game. We decided to restart. But this is perhaps one of the largest imbalances in the game: the human player only needs to make one mistake to lose the game while stealers can usually absorb early and mid-game blunders.
Space Hulk
Oops, the delaying action didn't delay them for long. Who's the joker that put jam in my bolter? I hate raspberry!
Space Hulk
Blip approaching! Form square! Form square!
Space Hulk
Take that you alien fiends! Spurred on by the captain (orbiting safely) the flamer marine spins and toasts two groups of genestealers!
Space Hulk
While the north entrance is blocked by scorching flame, stealers rush in from south.
Space Hulk
A whiff of napalm should slow them down... but this ain't looking good. Hold out sarge! Help is on the way!
Space Hulk
The aftermath of the Kodak(tm) moment: Unbelievably the stealers lose several close assaults in row and the CAT team sergeant slips away. The C.A.T. is passed down a chain of marines and...
Space Hulk
TOUCHDOWN! Whew, that was close...
Oldies
Look ma, it's a reversible hill! These are very old Warhammer 40,000 figures, from around the time Rogue Trader was launched (1987-88). I painted them back then.
Oldies
Two original space orks.
Oldies
Orks from the back. Note the fashionable pink and orange.
Oldies
Eldar warrior. Back then I couldn't afford very many miniatures, so I spent more time working on them, like with the base here. Those are airgun pellets.
Oldies
Eldar warrior alter ego?
Oldies
Eldar warrior from behind.
Oldies
Space dwarf, aka squat. Back in the day, GW used to give an individual name to every single miniature they released. Every single one. And not just trooper-1, 2 and 3, but a real name. These squats had names like Uzi Smith and Colt Wesson.
Oldies
JD has a flamethrower, methinks. Being sensitive about his height, he carries around a block to stand on.
Oldies
Initials on the backpack. I tried a lot of this writing stuff at that time. I wonder why...
Oldies
Squat adventurer in power armor. I used to do this a lot back then - it's basically just an ink wash over bare metal.
Oldies
And another view from the back. It takes a few layers of wash to get it to really stick to bare metal.
Beaky Marines
After seeing Little Shop of Horrors, I just had to do something mean and green. Here's sergeant Audrey and a flamer guy.
Beaky Marines
More mean and green marines.
Beaky Marines
I still think this is the best model of Space Marine armors they did.
Beaky Marines
The grey squad.
Beaky Marines
The grey squad was fairly vanilla.
Beaky Marines
Perhaps a bit assaulty with all those bolt pistols. The thing on the sergeant's base is a coin.
Beaky Marines
And the final brother marine...
Oldies
This is an odd bunch.
Oldies
I'm not 100% sure whether I painted this or not. The text on the shoulder is mine, though.
Oldies
It might be that someone else did the conversion and I painted him...
Oldies
I did not paint the marine. Can't recall who did, though. The other guy is from an early human adventurers line.
Oldies
Very early Imperial Guard. Note the bionic leg.
Original Marines
These were actually done for Traveller, but they show the future lines of beaky marines.
Oldies
I didn't do the ork. The guy in red is actually an Imperial Guardsman conversion I did for a Fantasy Battle project (that never got off the ground).
Oldies
Imperial Guardsman.
Space Ninja
Even hard vacuum can not stop Nippon's best!
Space Ninja
This is a simple conversion done with a Dixon ninja and a spare early 40K backpack.
Rouge Trader
Cobalts climb on the hill while Mishima trails behind.
Rouge Trader
Wait a minute! Who's here?
Rouge Trader
And here too! Looks like everyone wants the Thionite.
Rouge Trader
Mishima redeploys to counter the new threat.
Rouge Trader
Cobalts engage in close range firefight with Abdul and Palansi troopers.
Rouge Trader
More Colbalt Mercs to the fray.
Rouge Trader
The remaining Chainsaw Warrior, this time actually equipped with one, charges the two Cobalts.
Rouge Trader
Having recovered some of Revered Star-Father's ashes, Palansi take cover behind a large thing.
Rouge Trader
Come and get it, h'm'n scum! beckons the Green One.
Rouge Trader
Abdul and Cobalts trade shots for little effect.
Rouge Trader
Cobalt Mercs spread out.
Rouge Trader
The end is nigh.
Rouge Trader
The Orange One finally gathers enough confidence to move up.
Rouge Trader
Mishima Security squad spreads out.
Rouge Trader
Abdul decides to make a run for it.
Rouge Trader
The Orange One and his cronies catch up with the last remaining Mishima trooper...
Alien Menace
A quick new game, featuring piles of genestealers.
Alien Menace
The object of the game is to escape in the space shuttle - after it's fixed.
Alien Menace
Cobalt firing line.
Alien Menace
Mishima firing line.
Alien Menace
Genestealers converging on hapless Cobalts.
Alien Menace
The Mishima manage to delay the genestealers a bit longer, but only due to their superior positioning.
Alien Menace
Oopsie, this is getting ugly. In the end two Mishima troopers managed to escape while their brave buddies held off the alien menace.
Space Hulk
This is a different game. I only managed to take this one shot. The scenario was 'Cleanse and Burn', which the marines won despite one serious blunder. The dice were with them.
Rouge Trader
Brave security troopers advance, chanting their battle hymn: 'All evidence must burn, all evidence...'
Rouge Trader
Cobalts skirting around a concentration of mushtrees.
Rouge Trader
First Blood. Accurate counterfire from Cobalts downs one chainsaw warrior.
Rouge Trader
Lord Onikage leads another squad on a flanking maneuver.
Rouge Trader
And there goes another Chainsaw Warrior! Things are not looking good for Abdul Goldberg...
Rouge Trader
Boys in blue advancing again.
Rouge Trader
More piratesmuggleraiders pop up to delay the heroes.
Epic Robots
These are actually not GW. The robots are from Heroics and Ros while the laser towers came with an AT-AT model.
Epic Robots
There were two types of robots: Heavy and light. These are the light ones.
Epic Robots
And here's a glimpse of the heavy ones.
Epic Laser Towers
Originally intended to be Hoth-white, I painted them black instead.
Epic Orks
For some reason, I really hated the ork miniatures. I never painted any of the infantry and these are the only battlewagons I actually finished.
Epic Orks
Closeup on the stupid skull thing.
Epic Orks
Well, at least these were easy to paint...
Epic Space Marine
All my painted epic scale space marines in their glory.
Epic Space Marine
Support section containing various conversions I did after I got bored with painting the basic models.
Epic Space Marine
This conversion is inspired by the Hetzer tank hunter. I've simply drilled a hole and glued one of the epic flag poles as a barrel. Note how the disc at the end of the pole is cut in half to simulate a muzzle brake.
Epic Space Marine
Whirlwinds converted using missile pods from Dark Future.
Epic Space Marine
AA model converted using lascannons from a Land Raider.
Epic Space Marine
Well, well, finally some use for the battlewagons - their turrets fit the Rhino perfectly.
Epic Space Marine
Closeup of the AA model.
Epic Space Marine
Land Raider Tank Hunters. Streamlined by chopping off the lascannons, serious firepower added by gluing a 28mm lasgun.
Or maybe they are heavy support artillery...
Epic Space Marine
Closeup on the Land Raider conversion.
Epic Space Marine
Side view of the heavy gun 'raider.
Epic Space Marine
Purple Hearts Land Raiders.
Epic Space Marine
Purple Hearts Tank Hunters
Epic Space Marine
The Black Guys. I never really thought about these guys, I just painted them black because I needed two distinct forces and black was faster to paint. Maybe that's why they have more infantry.
Epic Space Marine
Closeup on the Rhinos. If you look carefully, you might catch a hint of dark green highlighting. Maybe they are Salamanders after all?
Epic Space Marine
Land Raider closeup.
Epic Space Marine
Command/AA Rhino.
Adeptus Titanicus
Remember Adeptus Titanicus? That was GW's attempt to grab a piece of the giant robot market. Not so successful, but it gave birth to Space Marine, aka 40K Epic.
Adeptus Titanicus
This is a plastic Warlord titan from the original game box. The real thing, you know.
Adeptus Titanicus
In brilliant imperial purple, equipped with a defense laser, two plasma cannons and a powerfist for close up action.
Adeptus Titanicus
In Space Marine 2nd edition they changed all the names of the weapons. Heretics! I want my Marco Cannon!
Adeptus Titanicus
Adeptus Titanicus was really the first game where Horus Heresy was brought to limelight. Largely because of production economics, I guess. GW could only afford to do one set of plastics, so they had to come up with an excuse why samey-looking guys are fighting each other.
Adeptus Titanicus
These are metal miniatures, a Reaver and two Warhounds. My Reaver came with the stupid back spike, so I replaced it with a plastic missile launcher.
Adeptus Titanicus
Two more plastic Warlords. There were six in the box.
Adeptus Titanicus
Three more plastic Warlord titans from the game box.
Adeptus Titanicus
Metal Warhound up close. You can see the metal epic scale marine on the base: At first they started doing these as cute add-ons for the titan kits.
Adeptus Titanicus
Closeup on the Warhound. This figure is done entirely with ink washes over bare metal. That waas another phase I was going through - it works really great on metal knights in full plate armor.
Adeptus Titanicus
Warhound from the back.
Adeptus Titanicus
Metal Reaver. These cost as much as two or three plastic ones, but the detail is better (lack of detail was a problem with early Citadel large plastic kits - my guess is they did the masters in the same scale as the smaller stuff, they just didn't shrink it quite as much for production moulds).
Adeptus Titanicus
This is also done with ink washes over bare metal. Well, the red panels are. The rest is normal paint.
Adeptus Titanicus
Multi-melta and a chainfist. The metal chainfist is much better than the plastic one.
Adeptus Titanicus
Top view.
Adeptus Titanicus
Another Warhound. This one is done with normal paints.
Adeptus Titanicus
Nicely obscured by the cotton smoke screen.
Adeptus Titanicus
Warhound from above.
Adeptus Titanicus
Warlord titan 'Rainbow Warrior'. There just happened to be 7 panels (5 on carapace and 2 on legs), so I painted each one in a different color.
Adeptus Titanicus
The runes are just random gibberish.
Adeptus Titanicus
Top view shows the Imperial Eagle emblem. The kits had two head variants but only one carapace, so unless you felt like scraping it off, the chaos guys also carried the eagle.
Adeptus Titanicus
There was something in the rules linking the amount of weapons carried to the speed of the titan. This is a fast scout model, intended to fire off its support missiles and then close into melee.
Adeptus Titanicus
Multi-melta is a powerful but short-ranged weapon.
Adeptus Titanicus
Why are missiles always painted white with red nose cones?
Adeptus Titanicus
The Pink Avenger. Customised with plastic marine chain-bayonet and a chaingun from Dark Future.
Adeptus Titanicus
Another view of the Pink Avenger.
Adeptus Titanicus
The models came with multiple antennas, but they were just begging to snap off, so in the end I didn't use them at all.
Adeptus Titanicus
I think this blue one was the first one I did. Armed with a missile launcher, defense laser and a las-cutter, or las-gutter as it was often called.
Adeptus Titanicus
This is a medium class configuration, if I remember correctly.
Adeptus Titanicus
IMHO, the nice thing about Adeptus Titanicus was that titan weapons were just multiples of the normal heavy weapons in the game. If you ask me, they went astray when they started adding new weapons into the game.
Adeptus Titanicus
I think this was the second one I painted. My red paint was not very good, as you can see on the carapace.
Adeptus Titanicus
Macro Cannon and two Autocannon(4)'s - a good combination. Autocannons are cheap and effective knocking down void shields while the macro cannon packs the punch to actually inflict criticals. Titans are so large you can't just whittle away their hit points with pinpricks, you need to be able to cause critical hits.
Adeptus Titanicus
And here's the horrid carapace.
Epic
I scratch-built these from various bits and pieces to be used as super-heavy tanks in Epic/Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine.
Epic
The hull is from an unknown toy tank, the turret base from Dark Future, the gun is a titan las-cutter and the magazine comes from a flakvierling kit.
Epic
The hull is actually a racing car I got from an easter egg (the hood and cockpit are puttied), the missiles might be from a Hind-D I never finished.
Jet Bike
This is the original WH40K jet bike, Mk14 Bullock if I recall correctly. The rider is an Imperial Guard conversion.
Jet Bike
Jet Bike from the front. I actually originally got two, but I chopped the other one up and converted it into a spaceship.
Jet Bike
Every dime counts...
Necrons
I bought this bunch half-done and finished them.
Necron scarabs
These were practically done when I got them.
Necron scarabs
The base stems on these little guys are a bit fragile.
Necrons
I got these assembled, and as you can see, the glowrod does not fit properly. Bad design, that area is way too weak.
Necrons
Oh yes, I chopped off all the silly axe blades.
Necrons
I wasn't shorted by the seller: I managed to lose one of the rods, so I cut a piece of beam saber sprue from a Gundam Model to replace it.
Necrons
And the obligatory overhead view.
Pilot
Oopsie, this is the last of the Macragge stuff. I tried writing on the thing he carries, but the varnish made it all fuzzy.
Pilot
The pilot from behind.
Kill Team
Boss goon guards the hive node vigilantly.
Kill Team
Things are not looking good. The alarm has been raised and the aliens are converging on the commando team.

Traitor lines surge forward in anticipation.
Patrol Clash
Alpha squad debusses.
Patrol Clash
Here they are, ready to take on all comers.
Patrol Clash
But maybe not these guys... initial traitor salvo has the brave marines fall back.
Patrol Clash
Squad Beta takes a detour to avoid unwanted missile attention.
Patrol Clash
Brave Rhine driver moves forward to draw attention away from the regrouping squad.
Patrol Clash
Squad Beta debusses and pours over the ruined wall to surprise a traitor squad.
Patrol Clash
One traitor squad taken care of, squad Beta prepares to tackle another.
Patrol Clash
Concentrated missile, plasma and fusion fire spell doom for the brave Rhino.
Patrol Clash
Squad Alpha surges forward again after playing missile tag for a bit.
Patrol Clash
Traitor squad is wiped out by the canny incendiary specialist form squad Beta. His squadmates are furious as their glorious charge into close combat is prevented by this.
Patrol Clash
Down to the last few men but not quitting, squad Alpha follow Captain Delacruz into action.
Patrol Clash
Another traitor squad taken down by Mr. BBQ. Furious gnashing of teeth ensues after another failed charge.
Patrol Clash
The traitor command squad wiped out except for Cpt. Bigglove, who decides to with draw. Another failed charge!
Kill Team
Nefarious aliens guard their hive node.
Patrol Clash
The last few of the traitor scum exiting the battlefield. At least they managed to do it on their own feet.
Patrol Clash
Victorious Purple Hearts survey the battlefield.
Kill Team
Brave commandos from the Catachan jungles sneak towards the objective.
Kill Team
The intruders remove one guarding goon squad before they know what hit them.
Kill Team
Oopsie, spotted. Alien scum scoots forwards.
Kill Team
Protracted hand-to-hand fighting ensues.
Kill Team
But eventually the immediate alien threat is neutralized.
Kill Team
One alien decides to flee, only to be mowed down.
Kill Team
Aliens lurk in the ruins.
Niilo's ork
This is Niilo's second ork. See how he painted the skull on the gun.
Niilo's ork
The second ork from behind. I think this is already substantially neater work.
More orks
Next batch of orkses undercoated, this time black. I think I'll teach Niilo to drybrush.
Space ork
This is actually Saara's model. I don't paint my orcs green. That's stupid, next they'll say orcs are actually plants.
War in 40K
It's a big dog.
War in 40K
Bikes galore.

Pumpkin Lords
I thought about using chaos marines as base but went with regular ones in the end.
Pumpkin Lords
Customized weapons.
Pumpkin Lords
Trick or treat?
Pumpkin Lords
Maybe I should do more of these?
Pumpkin Lords
These actually took more time than the color scheme suggests.
Poxwalkers
Poxwalkers! These are from the Dark Imperium set.
Poxwalkers
The obligatory overhead view.
Poxwalkers
Nice coat on this one.
Poxwalkers
There's ten unique poses but they're not customizable at all.
Poxwalkers
Some color variations.
Poxwalkers
Weirdly the easy-build set from the same era actually has completely different models.
Poxwalkers
Looking all gross and sick.

Brave Troubleshooters
The four hearoes.

Brave Troubleshooters

Elucudian Starstriders
These bespoke Killteam sets are so characterful.

Elucudian Starstriders
So... much... filigree...
Elucudian Starstriders
Ok, he's kind of a new hire...

Elucudian Starstriders
These were interesting to paint.

Servitors
The obligatory overhead view!
Servitors
These are 3D prints I bought second hand, I have no idea where they came from.
Servitors
Not a lot of variety, but they're ok.
Servitors
Nice backpacks...
