Urbania
Terrain.
House in the hills
Argh! No! Another useless top view...
House in the hills
I bought a pile of these pieces without really thinking about the layout.
House in the hills
The walls came in two batches. For some reason, the first batch contained walls with the creeping vines while the second batch was all clean -- even though there's only one order code for these walls.
House in the hills
The corner piece length is NOT one half of straight piece, which limits the layout options somewhat.
House in the hills
The house. These are done almost entirely in Winsor & Newton tube acrylics... except the white bits, which are mostly cheap indoor latex and the blue curtain, which is done in Miniature Paints with a dash of Warzone blue ink.
House in the hills
These are all Hovels 25mm scenics.
House in the hills
Doing the plankwork on the house was actually rather irritating...
House in the hills
Another view of the house. I guess I could have defined the blinds better, but I was again getting the stage where I just wanted the damn thing to be finished.
House in the hills
Since I did not paint up my new batch of samurai figures yet, I dug up some old ones for action shots.
House in the hills
The nice ones are pre-painted ones I bought from em-4. The crappy ones are some Dixon minis I originally did almost 20 years ago, redid maybe 12 years ago and got ruined by a batch of bad varnish!
House in the hills
The ishidori have maybe 5 levels of shading... not that you'd notice, they turned out much too dark.
House in the hills
The monk is mine, but I can't remember whether I actually painted it or not. Could have been a friend of mine who actually has artistic talent.
House in the hills
Samurai in colorful armor.
House in the hills
Showdown in the sunset.
House in the hills
The gate... the gate...
House in the hills
More Hovels samurai housing goodness. This is the old house.
House in the hills
Another view of the old house. And I still dislike doing the plankwork...
House in the hills
Yet another view of the old house...
House in the hills
Country inn, I think. I like how the roof came out.
House in the hills
Considering that I prettu much just splurged some color on the sacks, they look ok.
House in the hills
Candlemaker's store, I believe, is what they call this model.
House in the hills
This one was much much faster to paint because it doesn't have that white stuff and planking.
House in the hills
Here are all the Hovels samurai houses on display.
House in the hills
Another view of the samurai houses.
Terrain
It's a bird... It's a plane... It's LEGO!
Amera Terrain
This is the terrace piece.
Amera Terrain
Another view of the terrace piece. I should have left more lip on the base board.
Amera Terrain
Temple ruins. The plastic is a bit thin, so I filled these with polyurethane foam.
Amera Terrain
Top view of the temple.
Amera Terrain
This is the small house model. the roof is a bit flimsy, but ok after you get it done.
Amera Terrain
Side view of the house. It is noticeably bigger than most resin buildings out there.
Amera Terrain
Front view. The detail on vertical surfaces is very shallow, but it is there.
Amera Terrain
Looks like the roof is tilted a bit... oh well, them's the breaks...
Amera Terrain
Back view of house. I used the optional window shutters, should have trimmed them a bit more before fitting.
WIP: Cratered hill
The surface texture, including the crater, is done with a hot air gun. Worked surprisingly well really.
Milk carton house
This was my attempt to use an empty milk carton as a skeleton for a house. I cast a little plaster on the bottom and filled the rest with polyfoam (which causes the slight bulging.
Milk carton house
Another view of the milk carton house. I tried maybe four or five cartons, but all the other ones bulged way too much to be useful.
Stone gates
The brave marines stumble upon a site of ancient worship... or is that an ancient site of worship?
Stone gates
These were made from scrap styrofoam with a hot wire cutter.
Hills
Look ma, it's a stack of hills!
Jungle trees
Note for purists: They're NOT sold as palm trees. I actually did not buy these, they sort of came as freebies with lots of stuff. It says you can build four trees from a set, but that's only because there's too few stumps. Base them yourself, and you can build roughly twice that number.
Crashed shuttle
Auto-correct my ass! The sheet ain't this red in real life. These are shuttle pieces from the Battle for Macragge boxed set, which is excellent value for money.
Crashed shuttle
I actually have two of these. I friendly person gave me one as a freebie. Thanks!
Crashed shuttle
This piece has a design flaw: it has no bottom inside. I solved this by glueing a bit of black cardboard under it.
Crashed shuttle
The interesting question is, could you glean enough information from these pieces to build a believable model of an intact shuttle? The front and tail are easy enough, but the mid-section would need to be extrapolated.
Crashed shuttle
And here's a peek at the fusion core.
Crashed shuttle
The other wing section. Heretically, I chose to use red trim instead of the blue and black in the box art. In addition, the hull gray has a slight yellow tint, though that might be hard to see in the photos.
Gothic ruins
Standard GW gothic ruins.
Barrels
Some barrels. The smaller ones are GW, the larger ones are from a 1/32 Trumpeter T-55.
Barricades
Standard GW barricades. I wanted to give them a rusty look, but failed. I need to practice my rustiness more.
Hills
More reversible hills. I killed an entire sheet of expanded polystyrene when making these.
Dungeon
Dungeon pieces made with Hirst Arts molds. They are really great stuff. Though Bruce recommended basing them on half-inch insulation foam. I checked the catalog, there was 20mm foam. I figured I could live with the extra thickness. Went to the hardware store, they only had another brand which was 30mm minimum. Oh well...
More hills
And that's the last of the styrofoam batch. Painting all the hills took approximately 12 liters of paint.
Bridges
More popsicle stick bidges.
Dungeon pieces
More dungeon pieces.
Dungeon pieces
More pieces, this time larger rooms.
Dungeon
Test setup.
Dungeon
Ok, so they just happened to be nearby...
Dungeon
Storming the alien stronghold...
Dungeon
The kids provided some layout assistance.
Dungeons
Those are the MageKnight figures again.
Dead guys
Two variants of the final resting place. The egyptian one is a resin item from Grendel I think and the other one is a plastic prop from HeroQuest I mounted on a couple of Hirst Arts blocks.
Tables
These are all made from HeroQuest props. The torture rack is straight forward, the other tables were fleshed out with popsicle sticks.
Columns
More resin columns. I'm not really happy how these turned out.
Torture chair
This is a resin item from Grendel. Or was it Fantasy Forge?
Desk
This is from a HeroQuest set. I made the legs from popsicle sticks.
Altar
Another HeroQuest item, this time based on Hirst Arts blocks.
Castle
The shape of things to come...
Castle
I made a small mistake building the tower, but fortunately that could be covered up. However, it's pretty hard to get the modular pieces to line up 100%.
Castle
I left the roof separate, for now at least.
Trees
These are all made from various aquarium plants. They were actually more expensive than I thought (and no, I didn't buy the Official GW Plants(tm), I went to a pet shop).
Trees
More aquarium plant trees.
BloodBowl
And here's the completed field. As an experiment, I coated it with acrylic floor polish instead of varnishing it normally. Let's see how it holds out.
Dungeon Pieces
Last time around I realized I have too few of these short corrider sections, so I made some more...
Trees
Trees, trees everywhere! But where's the forest?
Castles
Minimal castle forming.
Buildings
I made most of these from plaster bricks originally bought for my kids. The roofs are made from a bamboo curtain I cut up.
Terrain boards
Simple hardboard affairs to replace my cloth fragments.
Terrain boards
They're sort of done now. The boards with depressions are reversible. Some boards are still one-sided, I haven't decided what to put on the other side yet.
Terrain boards
I'm not happy with the river, Woodland Scenics Realistic Water didn't really work as advertised. Maybe I'll redo them at a later date.
Terrain boards
Test setup using the new terrain boards.
Terrain boards
My hills are too big...
Pond
It's a giant hole in the ground!
Bridge
I basically made this to get rid of a bunch of arch pieces.
Castle pieces
The castle grows and grows... now I have enough pieces for a 3x2 layout with corner towers.
Stone house
This is made from Hirst Arts fieldstone blocks. The roof is removable.
Stone house
The roof is cardboard strips on a balsa backing. Unfortunately the balse warped seriously when it got into contact with paint, breaking the glue bond with the tiles.
Stone house
Here's the house with the roof removed.
Cathedral of Pain
Originally, I designed this building the get rid of a huge pile of arrow slits.
Cathedral of Pain
Then, ofcourse, I ran out of blocks when I was supposed to do the ceiling...
Tek-Pyramid
I made this from the leftover pieces of my Tehnolog Hexagon set. These pieces seemed a bit hard to connect with the rest of the set.
Hexagon platform
This is made from the contents of the Tehnolog/Pegasus large Hexagon box.
Hexagon platform
It was a learning experience, I can tell you that. Next time, I'll try to paint the pieces on the sprue.
Hexagon platform
The kit is sold as rebuildable, but frankly it's not. You have a degree of trial and error when building it, but the connector pieces won't stand up to repeated rebuilding.
Hexagon platform
Here's a Black Tree 28mm celtic warrior on one of the platforms. As you can see, the platform is a bit big for 28mm, but quite usable.
Cathedral of Pain
I'm not quite satisfied with the roof (it's not steep enough), but it's a separate piece so I can redo it easily if I really feel like it. The Cathedral is just missing paint now.
Cathedral of Pain
Overhead view without the roof. The floor is the primus motor for this project. I had a bunch of arrow slit pieces I could find a use for...
Cathedral of Pain
Inside of view of the cathedral.
Cathedral of Pain
The finished cathedral, finally. As you can see, the roof really should be steeper than 45 degrees.
Cathedral of Pain
The obligatory overhead view.
Cathedral of Pain
Maybe it would be better with a black roof after all...
Cathedral of Pain
There isn't enough room for the arch either.
Cathedral of Pain
But the roof is removable.
Cathedral of Pain
I made the top layer in two parts mainly because I wasn't sure it could handle the stress of a one-piece structure.
Cathedral of Pain
Inside, facing the altar space.
Cathedral of Pain
I left out all the furnishings to leave more room for figures.
Yet another house
It's a house, what can I say?
Yet another house
I made this one to use up my store of fieldstone bricks.
Yet another house
Again, the roof is removable.
Building interiors
Here are the new interiors.
Building interiors
Obviously the furniture is missing.
Building interiors
They're cheap and nasty and that's exactly how I planned them.
Building interiors
This was mainly a test what was the lowest/fastest quality I could produce.
Building interiors
Really needs some furniture in there...
Building interiors
Oh, did I meantion they are reversible? And the doors are tack-on?
The walls
No Floyds in sight, pink or otherwise.
The walls
Yet more propaganda posters to spice it up a bit.
Columns
I had had these lying about for a long time and it was either paint them or throw them out. This doesn't mean they won't get thrown out anyway...
Desks
I made these for a game I never wrote. Well, haven't written so far. Let's see.
Terrain boards
Here are the new red desert boards I made.
Terrain boards
I made a bunch of hills in the same style long ago and I thought I had boards in the same style but, alas, I only had two.
Terrain boards
So now I made six more of these. They're all flat, though. Let's see if I can be bothered to carve a couple of them up with wadis or something.
Terrain boards
And here are the new grey desert boards. I initially thought these might double as city base, but let's see. They appear all shiny because the paint is still wet and they need the final drybrushing.
Fence them in!
Some Renedra fences that came with the Perry houses. I still have the other two fence styles to build...
American Farmhouse by Perry Miniatures
Ok, here are the finished houses.
American Farmhouse by Perry Miniatures
I decided to base the houses to make them sturdier. That's a Renegade 28mm celtic slingers for size comparison. I think I used a terracotta -colored base paint for this.
American Farmhouse by Perry Miniatures
Here's the other house. This one started as pale yellow, but the Vallejo sepia wash transformed it into more of a light brown.
American Farmhouse by Perry Miniatures
And the iconic white, ofcourse.
American Farmhouse by Perry Miniatures
The interiors are barely functional. Maybe I'll come back and finish them later. More likely not...
American Farmhouse by Perry Miniatures
All three ready to play.
American Farmhouse by Perry Miniatures
The slinger has a bit of a dilemma -- the door is glued shut for durability.
Terrain tiles
Some prototype tiles. I'll see how these turn out before making more.
Terrain boards
New red desert boards.
Fences
The remaining Perry/Renedra fences done.
Fences
I'm not a huge fan of these, but they were cluttering the desk.
Jungle huts
New 15mm huts for Vietnam and other jungles.
Jungle huts
These are from Peter Pig.
Jungle huts
The other hut. I probably should have searched for some photo reference before painting them.
Jungle huts
Both huts on display.
Terrain tiles
The first batch of tiles done.
Barrels
Here are the Renedra barrels that came with my Perry houses. I meant to paint the bands metallic but forgot. Oh well, they're wooden barrel bands then...
The Steam Tunnels
Here's a primed TAG SWAT trooper I threw in there to show scale.
The Steam Tunnels
The second batch of tiles is ready.
The Steam Tunnels
Another sample setup.
The Steam Tunnels
I made one tile too many, as you can see.
The Steam Tunnels
The thing that makes this work is that you don't even try to model all the walls. This wouldn't work as part of a larger setup, but if the entire game is in the maze it doesn't matter.
The Steam Tunnels
I used discarded blister foams quite a bit for painting this. Worked pretty well to create the dirty stained look.
The Steam Tunnels
I glued random bits or cardboard to the wall to make them more interesting.
The Steam Tunnels
The British are engaging some pirates in the chaotic service tunnels below X-dishu docks.
The Steam Tunnels
Covering the approach.
The Steam Tunnels
On my mark...
The Steam Tunnels
The opposition.
The Steam Tunnels
Yes, bring EVERYBODY!
The Steam Tunnels
They went thataway!
The Steam Tunnels
Guess who's coming to dinner?
The Steam Tunnels
The obligatory overhead view.
Pipe stack
I made this from random junk.
The Steam Tunnels
Here's the very first batch of terrain tiles I made. I happened to have a big pile of unused 12cm x 6cm tiles and decided to find a use for them.
The Steam Tunnels
This is a small example setup I threw together for the photo shoot.
The Steam Tunnels
The idea is that you can slap the tiles down in almost any order and create some sort of mazelike environment.
The Steam Tunnels
The walls are made from foamboard and the flooring is plasticard but the rest of it is just bits of cardboard and recycled junk.
Terrain tiles
This one was slightly delayed due to extra layers of paint on the baby food lid.
Cargo stacks
After the successful prototype, I quickly made more stacks.
Terrain tiles
More plain tiles.
Terrain tiles
More tiles in the works. This is going to be the final batch for now.
Plasticard
My one beef with this material is right here: The sheets are not cut following the embossed design. So if you want a square sheet with aligned design, you'll need to trim the edges yourself.
Cargo stack
Another stack of cargo. You have no idea how much white glue this one took and how long it took to dry. Still, I'm not very happy with it...
The Steam Tunnels
Here's another test setup with all my tiles. It's a bit cramped, maybe I should have made more open tiles after all.
The Steam Tunnels
Basically the same shot, but with a 50cm ruler for scale. So this is basically a 2' square.
The Steam Tunnels
Maybe I should make more of these machinery pieces.
The Steam Tunnels
Going down...
The Steam Tunnels
Investigating suspicious activity.
The Steam Tunnels
Something's up ahead...
The Steam Tunnels
Someone's snooping!
The Steam Tunnels
Peek around the corner.
The Steam Tunnels
Careful approach.
The Steam Tunnels
Surprise!
Pardulon accessories
Here's my batch of Pardulon accessories.
Pardulon accessories
These are all pretty nice, but I like the dumpsters especially. And I gotta get some more sofas and chairs to make some interesting designs.
15mm bridge
This is a small bridge from Warbases. It's laser-cut MDF.
15mm barns
The larger barn has three doors. One of the slots for the door pieces was slightly offset (and I didn't fix it), but I don't think most people will notice.
City Streets
Believe it or not, this is going to be a city.
Modular buildings
I thought about keeping the doors and windows separate, but in the end I decided to glue them on. It was the right thing to do, with the stucco finish it would be pretty much impossible to blu-tac them on neatly.
Modular buildings
I left the interiors pretty bare for now.
15mm barns
Here are the barns I made from the Warbases kits. Pretty nice, I think.
15mm barns
This is the smaller of the barns. It can hold two infantry bases for you know what game.
15mm barns
The L-shaped roof is in two pieces. Maybe I could have glued them together, but tiling it would have been more difficult... hmm...
Mansard roof house
This is the small mansard roof house kit from Warbases. Actually, the top of the roof posed a big dilemma, because I have no idea what it's supposed to look like and finding pictures from that angle wasn't easy. I figures tiles or shingles on the flat part make no sense, so I glued some strips of paper to simular tar paper.
Mansard roof house
The kit comes with windows, but I left them out so my figures can see out better. It's a bit too red, maybe I should have painted the tiles another color.
Mansard roof house
The kit does not come with an interior floor, but it wasn't too hard to make one. To facilitate lifting the floor while it has minis on it, I screwed on a piece of 'furniture'. It was a late addition, next time I'll make a nicer piece in advance.
Mansard roof house
Here's the bottom floor. The corner pieces hold the interior floor. The two doors are simply glued on.
Modular buildings
Here are my modular buildings from Warbases.
Modular buildings
To add some color, I painted some of the doors and windows blue and green, which is what they really do around the mediterranean.
Modular buildings
And here's the cunning plan: On the back wall the doors and windows are always on the same side so...
Modular buildings
... that when the buildings are placed back to back, the gap is as small as possible.
Modular buildings
Here's another possible setup.
Modular buildings
Size comparison. That's a Gripping Beast plastic 28mm saxon knocking on the door.
Modular buildings
The two-storey building next to a single-storey one.
City Streets
Second try for city street base. Cutting the plasticard seems to reduce the warping quite a bit.
City Streets
More washing. These proved to be harder than I initially thought, probably because the detail on the embossed plasticard is pretty this after all -- it's easy to clog it even with drybrushing.
Wrecks
Here's the buried tank.
Wrecks
The APC has some weeds growing.
Wrecks
The line of parked jeeps. I added small splotches of ink to liven up the sand a bit. I thinkthis whole thing would have worked better with a yellow sandy color, but I don't have a board in that color.
Wrecks
The first batch of vehicle wrecks is done.
Wreck Factory
Ok, so I made a couple more...
Enter The Warp
I bought this as a sampler. Maybe I'll dig up my Full Thrust rules now...
Enter The Warp
I'll have to the see how I can get rid of the creases.
Sunken Wrecks
The cars are buried.
Sunken Wrecks
This one is almost completely covered.
Sunken Wrecks
The jeeps came in packs of three.
Sunken Wrecks
Is it safe to cross? Always look both ways first!
Sunken Wrecks
A Warrior APC deeply stuck.
Sunken Wrecks
Here are some of the wrecks I made.
Sunken Wrecks
More of the wrecks.
Sunken Wrecks
Handy wall fragment provides prime sniping position.
Sunken Wrecks
Ok, who forgot the keys?
Sunken Wrecks
The barrel solution is not ideal, but it sort of works.
Sunken Wrecks
Team advancing.
Sunken Wrecks
Lots of broken barrels around here.
Sunken Wrecks
This looks like a nice spot.
Sunken Wrecks
Watch out for the back blast!
Warehouse
More MDF housing from Warbases. This is the warehouse unit.
Warehouse
As before, I left the windows off.
Warehouse
After some thought, I decided to glue the doors on.
Warehouse
The interior is pretty roomy. I probably should get more of these for a proper little industrial district.
New Houses On The Block
Some new houses I built. These are actually HO-scale railway models.
New Houses On The Block
I need to make a sign for this shabby little garage
New Houses On The Block
Train station. Looks like the marque needs a little cleanup.
New Houses On The Block
I just hate painting these semi-timbered buildings.
Housing Market
The dynamic duo has come to investigate the rundown garage.
Housing Market
Sarge, I don't think I'm going to fit through that door!
Housing Market
Looks like the garage specializes in fixing compact sports cars.
Housing Market
Brock Kentman reporting from the station.
Housing Market
And the loo is right around the corner.
Housing Market
Looks like they don't have a whole lot to sell. Good, otherwise we couldn't fit in.
Housing Market
The suspect walked through this door when he hit his head.
Housing Market
Honey, I don't think grandma's rocker fits in. We need a bigger house!
House Comparison
A quick comparison of house sizes. These are all supposed to be two-story houses. On the left there is a Warbases modular house, in the middle Warbases mansard roof house and on the right Dapol's OO scale country inn.
House Comparison
Single story comparison. Dapol's OO scale garage and ticket hall bracket the Warbases modular building.
House Comparison
The garage is noticeably smaller.
House Comparison
And the ticketing hall does not fare much better.
Graveyard Shift
These are the Renedra gravestones.
Graveyard Shift
They're all gray. When I'm doing 42 at a time, I have pretty limited capacity for variations. Maybe I should get another set after all?
Graveyard Shift
It's getting crowded here.
Graveyard Shift
Ok, I cheated. The two broken headstones are not on slottabases.
Graveyard Shift
The obligatory overhead view.
Graveyard Shift
Someone remembers.
Graveyard Shift
I just stuck them on old cavalry slottabases and textured them.
Graveyard Shift
Headstones on paving. I really should do the rest of the paving sheets, after all I already got the materials.
Graveyard Shift
Slightly more widely spaced setup.
Graveyard Shift
I got the plants from eBay.
Graveyard Shift
A little gilding goes a long way...
Columns
More plaster casting fun in the works.
Moonbase
Waiting for final detailing touches.
Moonbase
The obligatory overhead view.
Moonbase
These are the new tunnels I got for Moonbase 13.
Moonbase
These are resin pieces from Grendel. They are really nice, easy to paint up and these days pretty cheap too.
Moonbase
Hmmm... I need a larger background picture.
Moonbase
You could put a whole lot more detail on the doors, but there's just so many of them...
Columns
I could have spent more time detailing these, but making a video at the same time does tend to distract you from the actual work...
Columns
Here are the finished columns.
Bug Holes
Kinda donut-shaped...
Bug Holes
Just waiting for some bugs to emerge.
More houses
More generic housing available.
More houses
The balcony is a new addition.
More houses
It would be nice if it was just a little bit wider...
Bridging it
Another batch of bridges finished.
Pipefarm
And here are the finished pipe stacks!
Terrain boards
More city boards done. This time I used superglue to prevent warping.

Containers
Maybe this will be enough for small games, because I really don't feel like assembling any more.
Barrels
The red ones go boom.
Moonbase
More pieces for the moonbase.
Cargo cubes
These are pretty nifty. Maybe I should get some more after all...
Doors
More doors from Warbases.
Canoes
Now we can go sailing. These were pretty simple to build.
Wreck
One more wreck in a slightly different color scheme.
Emplacements.
Well, I found some use for the Warzone sprues.
Doors and windows
The windows came out better...
Consoles
Finished consoles. I'm not happy with the displays, gotta try something else next time.
More House Market
Hmmm... in this picure they look like they almost belong there.
More House Market
Maybe the house is a bit too big.
More House Market
FoW bases fit inside without problems.
More House Market
This looks reasonably ok as well.
Space Mat
It was under the rug for six months or so, now the creases seem to have disappeared.
Oil Tanks
There are small magnets holding the catwalks, but they are really too small.
Oil Tanks
As you can see, the tanks are really well maintained and there is zero risk of environmental damage.
Oil Tanks
The rust effect stuff I bought works really well. It would look even better unvarnished but as the stuff is water soluble even dry, I didn't want it smeared by sweaty fingers.
Oil Tanks
The obligatory overhead view.
Oil Tanks
This was totally unplanned.
Oil Tanks
Some half-finished figures for size reference.
Barbarian hut
The top lifts off, though I think it's not really high enough for most minis.
Statues
Two new statues to guard... well, whatever.
Statues
I was going for that aged bronze look.
Statues
Maybe I should have added lighter verdigris on the top surfaces...
Urban accessories
Propane tank and jersey barriers from Ainsty. I'll paint the barriers yellow and red the next time...
Urban accessories
The propane tank. I thought the two-tone job would be more interesting. The integral base is a bit of a putoff if you don't use Ainsty for everything.
Urban accessories
Arcade and vending machines, plus a photocopier and a safe.
Urban accessories
These were pretty fun to do. Red Star Cola, authentic taste of communism!
Urban accessories
Office equipment is a bit bland...
Urban accessories
The white stripe could be neater...
Urban accessories
I went wild with decals on the arcade machines.
Barbarian hut
This is an old Grendel model I've had for ages.
Barbarian hut
It was actually pretty simple to paint, and I discovered a new method to paint bone.
Barbarian hut
The main door.
Berlin Houses
These are the boxes the houses and extra floors come in.
Berlin Houses
all ready and done, finally.
Berlin Houses
Slightly nicer background. These are too large to fit in my usual studio space.
Berlin Houses
Curiously, the kits don't come with any doors at all, interior or exterior.
Berlin Houses
The red color works better for contrast. The cute variations of shades of gray get easily lost if you're not looking very closely.
Berlin Houses
Finished houses from another angle.
Berlin Houses
This is what the stairwell looks like.
Berlin Houses
Interior details.
Berlin Houses
Once finished, it doesn't look quite as awful as in raw plastic.
Berlin Houses
The interior walls are a bit troublesome.
Berlin Houses
There was an ugly hole next to the doorway, I covered it with a piece of plasticard.
Berlin Houses
Checking the room.
Berlin Houses
In the windows.
Berlin Houses
The stairs are a tad too tight...
Berlin Houses
Plenty of room on the roof, and some nice cover from the edge as well.
Berlin Houses
Today we take Berlin!
Berlin Houses
The ride is here.
Berlin Houses
You can also use them with just the ground floor.
Berlin Houses
This looks nice but any higher is not really necessary...
Pallets
I kind soul on Lead Adventure sold these to me for next to nothing. Many thanks! They'll spice up my urban environments nicely.
City boards
The latest batch. I managed to control warping this time, maybe I should dismantle and reglue the older ones too.
Moondomes
Here are the new moondomes, constructed out of some toys I bought for 90% off.
Moondomes
These were pretty easy to do. And the doors on the big domes even open.
Moondomes
The smaller domes are actually halves of an egg-shaped 'space home'.
Moondomes
The color scheme should match my other moonbase stuff.
Moondome construction
First we dismantle the domes. Luckily they are put together with normal screws.
Moondome construction
Even the door is just screwed on.
Moondome construction
Then it's bath time.
Furniture
Ok, I call them done now. More interior decoration for Heist games.
Cargo piles
And here they are finished.
Landing pods
The finished landing pods. You can still open them and put figures inside.
Moondomes
More moondomes.
Moonbase storage
And here's everything in storage. I need to find a better box for them.
Columns
I built some columns. Plaster construction is getting a bit tricky because it's so cold and humid, the bricks don't want to dry out...
Columns
Hmmm... the other three didn't make it into the picture. You'll just have to take my word that they are pretty much identical.
Walls, well and stuff
I grabbed the remaining Hovels walls from Phil. This should help out a little bit...
Walls, well and stuff
Incidentally, the walls don't quite match my existing ones even though they are from the same manufacturer. Maybe they redid the molds at some point?
Walls, well and stuff
The casting quality on the ishidori lanterns was... not very good.
Targets
I made these for a tutorial game. The tires are rubber and very difficult to glue...
Tire Stacks
I don't think I'll even bother painting these... but I should get more, many more.
Walkways
I decided against the age old black with silver drybrush theme... These are from MiniBits and pretty nice. I'll get some more of them.
Terrain Extagavanza
Tomatoes! Lettuce! Nice fishies! And something else for the distinguished gentleman...
Terrain Extagavanza
Pretty nice bales there.
Terrain Extagavanza
More barriers for concrete heaven. Without these people could be driving all over the place!
Terrain Extagavanza
Lockers and barrel stacks. The barrels are actually 15mm items from Old Crow, but can stand for smaller containers in 28mm games too.
Crate stacks
Crate stacks from Old Crow. These are actually 15mm items, but they'll work nicely as smaller boxes for 28mm as well.
Containers
These are the new containers from Ainsty. They are maybe a wee bit smallish, but they're still the first reasonably priced accurate modern shipping containers in 28mm I've seen.
Urban Items
A hole-in-the-wall, AKA ATM and two multipurpose bins. I think I definitely want to get more of those bins.
Shelves
Shelves from Ainsty. They were actually one set, but it was so high I decided to make one extra top and split them into two.
Shelves
There's really three different kinds of shelves in there.
Shelves
These belong to the counter and shelves set. They are really too thin to stand on their own, you need to set them against the wall or back to back.
Refreshments
I'm not quite happy with how the vending machine fronts came out.
Counter
This goes with the two thin shelves.
Building Blocks
A simple test of the new modular building blocks.
Quonset huts
This set was pretty cheap.
Quonset huts
I think the weathering really makes them stand out instead of being just basic bland grey blobs.
More walkways
These were so good I ordered two more sets. Maybe I need a couple more sets...
More walls
I made some more walls for my interior battles set.
More walls
I also added a couple of stairpieces as a test. They look a bit funky, but on the other hand there's ample space for a figure on every step.
Ice Floats
Ok, the ice floats are done... now, what could we be using these for...
Bridging it up
Here's the finished bridge. Maybe I should have gone for a darker tone...
Bridging it up
Unlike most gaming bridges, this one can actually bridge gaps.
Bridging it up
Here's a figure for size comparison.
The Bunker
Here's the bunker. It still needs to roof piece, but I'll add that later.
The Bunker
I'm not totally satisfied with this, but I'll live with it...
Tank traps
These are tank traps from Puppetswar.
Tank traps
They are a bit worn.
Tank traps
I didn't want to do the same old gray...
Barrelcades
These are the barrel barricades from Puppetswar.
Barrelcades
They contain mostly barrels but also crates and assorted junk.
Barrelcades
Size is perfect for 28mm figures.
Barbarian huts
Here are the final huts. These are from Grendel though Gale Force has very similar items.
Factory Block
Here are the finished buildings. They are perhaps a wee bit on the small side, but perfectly usable.
Factory Block
The interiors are quite usable
Factory Block
Exterior detail is nice, but all engraved. There are no separate detail pars.
Fountain and light
Two diametrically opposed examples of MDF kits. The fountain is pretty nice and works well.
The searchlight is a nightmare to assemble and won't come out right anyway.
Space station
Ok, I assembled all the stuff I got from the Kickstarter. Now I'll just have to find a use for them.
Door a galore
These are from the Alabaster terrain box. I finally decided to do something with that.
Doors a lot
These are the doors from Alabaster terrain pack. They're pretty nice, actually. I tried a new technique with them.
Cargo on the move
Here's a few container MDF kits I built. I got these from MiniBits, it's a basic inexpensive kits.
Cargo on the move
Storage boxes. A bit of a hassle to put together, but they look pretty nice.
Train tracks
Not a whole lot of them, but still better than nothing.
Shack City
I got these 15mm buildings as part of a deal.
Shack City
They look like they've been built from the remains of a starship or something.
Shack City
These are all resin pieces, except the bases which I made from plasticard.
Shack City
I'm not sure if the poles were supposed to support a sunscreen or something?
Shack City
More buildings of the same ilk.
Shack City
Most of them can't really accommodate a FoW base.
Shack City
Maybe I should have gone for more variety on roof colors.
Shack City
I tried to paint the pillars as badly rusted hydraulic cylinders.
Shack City
Some of the roofs are removable.
Shack City
I think I just realized what I can use these for.
City board
The Games & Gears 28mm urban board.
City board
It's a bit plasticky as-is, but should be okay after some touchup.
City board
Test drive setup. I need more city buildings.
City board
I could have done with one more road piece. Right now the options are a bit limited.
City board
I just threw this quickly together. It'll look better with more details on the board.
City board
The detail is recessed by 1-2mm. I think that is supposed to be park area or something... need to figure out what to put there.
City board
This looks pretty okay.
Aerial View
This is my new map from 4th War. Looks pretty neat, actually.
Aerial View
Air war, here we come!
Cosmic Vistas
This is my new space mat from 4th War. It's not as good as the aerial view one. The colors are a bit faded.
Cosmic Vistas
And there's those creases... gotta figure out what to do about them.
Old City Tiles
These are my new old city tiles from Games & Gears.
Old City Tiles
They look pretty good straight outta the box.
Old City Tiles
The black road ends need to be covered if they're not in use.
Old City Tiles
Even the old Cathedral of Pain came out to play.
Old City Tiles
Engraved details are a bit fanciful, but nice.
Old City Tiles
The water is not very convincing, I'll probably redo it.
Houses
A couple of new buildings from Sarissa.
Houses
Originally these came without floors, but I added them.
Houses
More MDF, it's MDF everywhere!
Houses
These are actually pretty nice, but also more involved to build than your typical shoebox MDF buildings.
Houses
There's multiple options for different floors and rooftops.
Houses
Space for some rooftop action.
Houses
The attic is not dusty at all.
Houses
Internal detail is decent, though the stairs are obviously missing.
Houses
Detail parts are cut from cardboard.
Houses
You could try sheet plastic for glass if you wanted to -- maybe I'll try that next time.
Houses
I think that wall piece was actually engraved on the wrong side...
Crystal Clusters
These are from Anarchy Models
Crystal Clusters
Unfortunately, they are not available anymore.
Crystal Clusters
I glued white plasticard to the bottoms. Painting them white might have worked just as well.
Paving
I made this test piece with spare piece of foam lying around.
Goblin Unswamped
Base armor.
Goblin Unswamped
Trying a new technique with the armor.
Goblin Unswamped
Not as good as I hoped...
Goblin Unswamped
Off to varnishing.
Goblin Unswamped
Almost done.
Stone Blocks
I have to do a demo setup as soon as I can clear the table.
Stone Blocks
New blocks. Actually pretty easy to do.
Stone Blocks
I skipped one shading stage on these.
Goblin Unswamped
I'm getting the hang of this.
Boxes
I think these came with the Sedition Wars game.
Loot Boxes
Just the final varnish...
Boxes and Fountains
Some Ziterdes items.
Boxes and Fountains
These boxes are cool.
Boxes and Fountains
The fountain is made from hard foam, the others are resin.
Victorian Townhouse
The Victorian townhouse is finished.
Victorian Townhouse
It has separate floors with interiors.
Victorian Townhouse
Interior detail is okay.
Victorian Townhouse
Actually painting the interior details is a bit of a chore, though...
Victorian Townhouse
The fit is not quite perfect.
Victorian Townhouse
Side view.
Victorian Townhouse
You can buy the floor separately if you want to add height.
The Tower
The tower is finished!
The Tower
The door.
The Tower
The dome is an optional extra.
The Tower
All the details are molded on.
Goblin Accessories
Various doodads from the Skull Pass set.
Goblin Accessories
I always like it when they incluide extra stuff like this.
Goblin Accessories
I'm not quite sure what they're supposed to be in the game though... objective markers?
Goblin Accessories
The back door.
SciFi accessories
These are from the Sedition Wars game.
Alien pods
These are extras from the Sedition Wars Kickstarter.
Alien pods
Honestly, they were the best part of that project.
Alien pods
The color scheme wasn't really something I planned.
Banquo Nacionale
The second Ziterdes building is ready.
Banquo Nacionale
Oopsie, I stacked it wrong.
Banquo Nacionale
The other side.
Banquo Nacionale
I tried to do the floor with a template but that didn't work out so well.
Banquo Nacionale
So I just free-handed it, which shows.
Banquo Nacionale
The third floor is fake with no interior detail, probably due to casting restrictions.
Banquo Nacionale
The inside walls are really difficult to paint.
Banquo Nacionale
Went with plain grey walls.
European Houses
This is supposed to be a Post Office, but it really works for any ugly goverment office.
European Houses
These are (almost) all from Laser Craft Arts.
European Houses
I'll redo the signs a bit later.
European Houses
They are very much made for gaming. FoW infantry bases fit on every floor, including the attic.
European Houses
I made a miscalculation and bough too few bases... because I wasn't sure if the bigger buildings fit on the same bases.
European Houses
I didn't glue then down on the bases for maximum flexibility.
European Houses
There's even backyards. I need to get more of these.
Signs of the Times
New signage.
Signs of the Times
The obligatory overhead view.
Signs of the Times
El Presidente!
Signs of the Times
Get some furniture!
Signs of the Times
More signs.
Signs of the Times
Even more signs.
Signs of the Times
Still more signs.
Signs of the Times
Hmmm... fourshadowing?
Signs of the Times
Spare signs.
Signs of the Times
More spare signs.
Signs of the Times
Woohoo - they are interchangeable!
Solar farm
The farm is done.
Shipwreck
I painted this as a regular wreck instead of a ghost ship.
Shipwreck
I had to cover the integral fish with flock to hide them.
Shipwreck
It's in two parts.
Shipwreck
You could also get a fish tank decoration for the same job, but this is probably bigger.
Ziterdes brickwork accessories
Small stuff to put on roofs.
IKEA housing
Here's the finished house.
IKEA housing
With the interior.
IKEA housing
And it's all detachable!
Brick Houses
Rooftop accessories.
Brick Houses
Here's the sample set, basically one of everything.
Brick Houses
I did minimal extra detailing to see how they'd look built straight from the box.
Brick Houses
The two-story building can be split into two separate buildings.
Brick Houses
The small houses basically have the same footprint and style, only the details differ.
Brick Houses
The big warehouse.
Brick Houses
The one building with slightly different style.
Brick Houses
I got two sets of rooftop accessories.

Wurstburg houses
The shops lined up.
Wurstburg houses
Commercial block.
Wurstburg houses
Bases. I have a couple bases to give layout options.

I'm calling these done.

Testing Proto-1.

I set this up to figure out what parts I need to get more of.
Test setup
I wanted canals and a dockside.
Terrain accessories
Trying to sort it all out.
Test setup
Hmmm... what is that doing there?
Test setup
I need more bridges.
Hills
New hills for square bashing.
Fallen Eagle
I dodn't want to make it gray.
Hero of the Empire
It's a pretty large statue.
Hero of the Empire
I'm still struggling to find a good way to paint pale stone.
Fallen Eagle
I'm pretty pleased with it.
Fences
More fences from Mantic.
Fences
Even more fences.

These are done now.

Need to find a storage box for them.
Future Ruins
These are GW ruins from the Kill Team box.
Future Ruins
I went for this overgrown look.
Future Ruins
These are pretty nice kits even though I don't generally like ruins.
Future Ruins
Here they are.
Future Ruins
Standing alone... prime spot for a sniper.
Future Ruins
The Green Stuff World vines are nice.
Future Ruins
I need more overgrown terrain.
Mushrooms
The exciting drying time.
Mushrooms
The candy version is done with microbeads intended for nails.
Mushrooms
I tried a little more realistic version... but honestly it looks a bit odd.
Fences
New fences done.
Wrecked cars
Wrecks from Walking Dead.

I finally refurbished my old winter trees.

Fitting the flag pole.
Pipe cleaner trees
First batch of pipe cleaner trees.
Pipe cleaner trees
Maybe it's a bit bright green...
Pipe cleaner trees
These are quite large, I'll try making half-size ones next.
Hedges
Made two test ones first.
Hedges
I made these from clump foliage. There must be an easier way...
Hedges
This is store bought stuff I just stuck on bases. Perfect for 15mm.
Battlefield Debris
Battlefield Debris from Mantic games.
Battlefield Debris
The obligatory overhead view.

More battlefield debris.

The obligatory overhead view.

I tried to do something other than the usual gray stone.
Terrain
It's a portal! And assorted knick knacks.

The translucent film is really nice.
Terrain
Stone stairs.

The fences are from Mantic, the thorns are BONES.
Fences and thorns
The obligatory overhead view.

Ruined pieces.

More ruined corners.

A little puff of smoke to finish it off.

This guy needs some flying lessons...
