ShockForce
I bought the cloth to make some field pieces, but in the end I don't think it was such a good idea. Here it's employed purely as a stopgap measure.

Hover APC
This is a Grendel model I believe. Another of my misguided attempts at funky camo schemes.
2003-03-20
Hover APC
Maybe I should have used a darker blue, or another black line to emphasize the yellow more.
2003-08-21
Rise of the Machines
Group shot of machinators. I'm no good at photography, so this shows rather painfully how shallow the focus is with macro setting. Maybe I should invest in a digital camera so I could see this stuff immediately instead of after getting the prints...

Rise of the Machines

Light grey shading applied on the white bits. I used to have real trouble painting white until I realised this trick. Now I have an old paint pot full of diluted light grey paint for stuff like this.

Dramatic, too dark shot... damn... should have previewed these first...
2003-11-19
Big Mama
This is how it turned out. I guess I could have added more detail, but by this stage I just wanted to get it finished.
2003-11-19
Big Mama
Another view of the finished model. The base is done with actual rock dust. The more sensible among us might just use sand, but I scavenged some rock dust produced by rock drills in a nearby construction site.
2003-11-19
Big Mama
I didn't smooth the weapon mounts with putty to show that they are interchangeable -- or maybe I was just lazy.
2003-11-19
Big Mama
Top-down view. Actually, I guess the camo was ok after all.
2003-11-19
Big Mama
Could use more detail and contrast in the belly area, but then again, players usually don't look at it from this angle anyway.

Meat Processing Plant 5
You can make terrain items out of anything. Ok, sticking to non-perishables is a good idea.
2004-04-12
Meat Processing Plant 5
I was supposed to add detailing to these, but I was too bored. Also, keeping them simple keeps them somewhat scaleless. These are equally ok with 28mm skirmish as microarmor.
2004-04-12
Meat Processing Plant 5
And the overhead view. The good thing about these boxes was that they had virtually no molded-on text or symbols. A quick whiff or sandpaper was enough.

WIP: Alien landscape
I snapped a picture of forthcoming terrain items.
2004-05-19
WIP: Cratered hill
The surface texture, including the crater, is done with a hot air gun. Worked surprisingly well really.

Alien landscape
All of these terrain items were made from polyfoam. I guess I could do a pictorial about it if anyone's interested.
2004-05-19
Chainsaw Warriors
These were Limited Edition figures to go with the launch of the Chainsaw Warrior boardgame, which I also have. The game is actually great fun, but has absolutely no use for miniatures (it's really a card game). Though a Meat Machine miniature sure would be nice...
2004-05-19
Chainsaw Warrior
I was still using enamels when I did these. This guy has a SMG and a combat chainsaw.
2004-05-19
Chainsaw Warrior

2004-06-02
Renegade Legion: Centurion
TOG mediums were called Romulus and Remus, but I forget which was which.
2004-06-02
Renegade Legion: Centurion
Light tanks. These colors are really boring, but the crappy models didn't really warrant much painting effort.
2004-06-02
Ogre
Pan-European Fencer. I actually rather like the model. Too bad it was ruined by a batch of bad varnish I had...
2004-06-02
Ogre
Another view of the Fencer. Note how bad the decals are.
2004-06-02
Ogre
Fencer was sort of poor man's Ogre, if I recall correctly.
2004-06-02
Ogre
A MkIII Ogre in Combine colors. The black scheme is a bit dull (and dusty!). I was trying for an eyeball effect here, but it really doesn't come through.
2004-06-02
Ogre
Side view of MkIII Ogre.
2004-06-02
Ogre
MkIII Ogre view from the top.
2004-06-02
Ogre
This an Ogre MkV. I was going through my tiger stripe phase when I painted this one.
2004-06-02
Ogre
I think the MkV is better than the black MkIII, but it is a bit monotonous. Perhaps the eyeball thing would have worked better with the two main batteries.
2004-06-02
Ogre
MkV from the side. The join between front and rear hull is very weak for a very very heavy metal model.
2004-06-02
Ogre
These are the old Ral Partha models. There's an error here: The MkV has only 12 AP batteries, therefore there are 4 extra ones in the back.
2004-06-02
Valkyrie
This is a plastic model, 1/200 I think. Or even smaller, though the proportions may be off (very common with toys).
2004-06-02
Valkyrie
That's a VF-1S Super, TV series version.
2004-06-02
Armored Valkyrie
These were supposed to be the same scale (1/200), but as you can see, they're really not.
2004-06-02
Armored Valkyrie
There are essentially toys, they're not very good models.
2004-06-02
Armored Valkyrie
I did these when we were playing Mecha! a lot with 'full scale' models. These were for the light stuff, real men used 1/100 Macross or 1/144 Gundam models.
2004-06-02
Armored Valkyrie
I'm really not very good at all with plastic models.
2004-06-02
Silent Death
These are from the original Silent Death. They changed the designs for the second edition - some for the better, some for the worse.
2004-06-02
Silent Death
This is a Salamander. It reminds me more of a condor or something, though. I absolutely hate the new model, this is a much better design.
2004-06-02
Silent Death
As you can guess, these are still from the tiger stripe phase.
2004-06-02
Silent Death
And this one is called Pharsii II, I think. It's seriously off-scale, it's really one of the heaviest fighters in the game.
2004-06-02
Silent Death
Another view of the Pharsii.
2004-06-02
Renegade Legion: Centurion
These are the models from the game box. Rather crappy, really, I've seen better stuff in cereal boxes.
2004-06-21
Kryomek
Here's the Alpha Helion up close.
2004-06-21
Kryomek
And another view of the Alpha Helion. I really need to think up another color scheme for these.
2004-06-21
Space Station Alpha
This is my array of Kryomek Sci-Fi buildings. They are very good, actually.
2004-06-21
Space Station Alpha
The models were obtained in four distinct phases. For the first and last I paid full price - rest were clearance sales.
2004-06-21
Space Station Alpha
I think I'll have to get a bit more connecting corridors and perhaps a few light flak and squad bunkers. In this picture you see, left-to-right: communication tower, squad bunker, large missile silo and part of command bunker.
2004-06-21
Space Station Alpha
Here's the command bunker with communication tower. A missile tower is behind that one. The good thing about these is that the tower/bunker tops are interchangeable. The bad thing, if I have to name one, is that every bleeding thing is bristling with guns. Ok for a lone gun tower or two, but it gets a bit ridiculous if you try to assemple a larger base.
2004-06-21
Space Station Alpha
I got three of these missile silos from a clearance sale for next to nothing. I buy a lot of stuff from clearance sales...
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
Some of these are already featured in some older photos, but I chose to reshoot them with the digital camera anyway.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
The teeny tank is a Warzone item, the medium ones are Kryomek and the big one is scratch-built.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
Kryomek hovercraft APC. The neat thing about these is that the upper and lower hull are separate (a limitation of the resin casting process). This means you can get a hover, grav, tracked and wheeled versions of the same tank. If you don't glue it down, you could even swap them as I think the hulls are all the same size.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
On the downside, they are a bit small. This is ofcourse a double-edged sword: On the plus side they don't take ridiculous amounts of tablespace. On the downside, they do look a bit puny if you have any other vehicles on the table.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
This was the first one of the tanks I painted, so it's in a rather dull all-green color scheme. There's a weak attempt at doing brownish camo streaks, but they don't show up well at all.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
Yeah, it's very bland.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
This one is the first attempt I made at Narn camo. As you can see, it looks nothing like the real thing, but relatively OK nonetheless.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
These tanks have a nice rough surface texture that drybrushes really well. The downside is that it's very hard to paint neat lines on it, as you can see in the edges of the camo pattern.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
This is a Kryomek alien tank I painted (badly) a long ago. Originally, the antennae were straight, they've been damaged in storage.

Sci-Fi tanks
This certaily isn't among my best work. In fact, it's downright ugly, and not in a positive sense.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
Maybe I should get another one and paint it better... maybe not.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
This is a scratch-built model I did inspired by an early Warhammer 40,000 article in White Dwarf.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
The base for the tank is a shampoo bottle (the WD original used a deodorant bottle). In addition it uses some bits from the bit box, plastic spoon, slottabases and a TV antenna casing.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
There are bits from a few Star Wars toys here (I think it was an Empire Strikes Back bounty hunter ship), various plastic models and ofcourse some GW bits.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
The bottom of the shampoo bottle was ugly, so I had to cover that up with something. Enter slottabases and some cotton for the exhaust. Note how illogical the design is - what are the sidemounted engines doing?
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
The commanders meltagun came from a GW robot model. The cat is from a Grenadier familiars set. The stupid clip is from a Tamiya flakvierling kit and the coax MG is a Dark Future gun.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
I honestly can't remember how I did the cupola. It's topped off with a plastic shield and I presume the rest must be filled in with putty.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
Perhaps not a tank per se, this is an autonomous robot vehicle from Warzone Cybertronic line.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
Rather uninspired work, I must say.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
I stuck number three there for no particular reason - I only have one of these models (bought from a clearance sale).
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
Thought the scratch-built tank was cool? Well, practice makes perfect I guess -- this is the prototype for that model.
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
This one is butt-ugly. I think it's also the first scratch-build I ever did. I didn't have the proper tools and I was still painting with enamels and oh boy does it all show...
2004-06-21
Sci-Fi tanks
But this one was actually made from a deodorant bottle. Here's the reason for it: It's a screw bottle, and the screw dial in the bottom makes a perfect engine exhaust without any additional work. Too bad I screwed the rest of it up...
2004-06-21
Ruins
Official 40K ruins. These are actually rather nice, they're not hollow like most plastic facade style houses.
2004-07-25
Lava pools
Expiremental terrain: lava pools.
2004-07-25
Lava pools
These were made with 'crack' effect paint. Took several tries, the crackling effect sometimes worked and sometimes didn't.

Cargo capsules
A lone marine hiding among cargo capsules. These were made from easter egg innards. They're half-filled with sand to made them more stable.
2004-07-25
Cargo capsules
Marines advance through the maze of cargo capsules in the loading bay. I made some singles and some clusters of three glued together for more stability.
2004-11-22
Kryomek
I was very very uninspired about these miniatures.
2004-11-22
Kryomek
That's black undercoat, then white on top with purple and red ink washes. Basically the same thing I did with my Palansi.
2004-11-22
Kryomek
I just wanted these off my table... They really are rather nice minis, but for some reason they did not inspire me in the least.
2004-11-22
Kryomek
These are basically black with heavy plum red drybrush.
2004-11-22
Kryomek
More white with purple wash for the exposed bits.
2004-11-22
Kryomek
The only inspired thing about these is that they're based with real coffee.

Rick Dom
This is a 1/200 HCM Pro model from Bandai.
2004-11-22
Rick Dom
There is some minor assembly work, basically cutting the weapons off a sprue and snap-fitting them, but otherwise these come ready to play.
2004-11-22
Rick Dom
It's really a tad too big for gaming (a little over 4 inches tall), and there's too much detail and removeable parts.
2004-11-22
Rick Dom
Paintjob is neat but basic. Done in plastic model style, it doesn't have any highlights or weathering.

Starships
While not actually a game of Full Thrust, it looks very much like one...
2005-01-29
Starships
Can you count how many starships are in this picture? Meteors don't count.
2005-01-29
Starships
Old GW Spacefleet ships. These are officially troop transports, cargo ships and shield ships if I recall correctly. Small wonder they were the only ones left in the discount bin.
2005-01-29
Starships
A closer look at the old Spacefleet ships. Even though these ships were next to useless in the rules, they are rather nice models, actually.
2005-01-29
Starships
Castellan shield ship, I think.

This is a troop transport from old Spacefleet range.

2005-01-29
Starships
I believe the small ones are frigates from the NAC range.
2005-01-29
Starships
This must be a NAC destroyer.
2005-01-29
Starships
I believe this is a NAC light cruiser. I chose this color scheme because I had too much Rotten Flesh left and couldn't think of another use for it.
2005-01-29

A NAC battledreadnought from GZG. I actually liked the old asymmetrical setup more.

Ok, it's a Bird of Prey and a Ferengi Marauder I got from an Adversaries set. The Romulan Warbird which was the main feature in the box never got finished.

T-55
This is also the first model I've really painted with an airbrush. I got myself an Iwata HP-C and some Vallejo ModelAir, so I can only blame myself for the lousy results... ok, it's better than I expected.
2005-01-29
Starships
I really don't know which way it should face... My knowledge of Star Trek, especially beyond TOS is extremely limited.
2005-01-29

A couple of heavy conversions. One is based around a diecast Hind-D toy while the other one is pure bits box wonder.

A small (frigate?) Kra'Vak ship from GZG.
2005-01-29

A Kra'Vak destroyer, I think. Originally the KV were horribly overpowered RPG-style alien menace until Fleet Book 2 toned them down to reason.
2005-01-29

Some sort of Kra'Vak cruiser from GZG.
2005-01-29

Scratch-built wonder. Made from LEGOs, a toothpaste cap and a small Titan part.
2005-01-29
Starships
The gray color scheme is a bit dull, though.
2005-01-29
Starships
The BattleTech fighters, again from a discount bin. They're not the same thing! The little one is a Liao Thrush and the slightly bigger one is a Kurita model, if memory serves me right.
2005-01-29
Starships
Apart from these guys, I also have a half-built Chippewa stuck around somewhere...
2005-01-29
Starships
Silent Death ships, old skool. These are from the time the game still had Metal Express as a subtitle.
2005-01-29
Starships
Revenge from the Silent Death line. I really like the look of it, but it's very boring in the game - a pure torpedo delivery platform and that's it.
2005-01-29
Starships
Two Pit Vipers in the foreground and two Teal Hawks in the back. The one thing common with both designs is that they're both very fast and they're both next to useless in a fight.
2005-01-29
Starships
The real powerhouse of the game, Night Hawk. Undercosted and sporting very lethal weaponry. Curiously, in all the example scenarios the Night Hawk pilots have lowest possible gunnery scores...
2005-01-29

Thunderbirds from Silent Death. Another less than optimal design.
2005-01-29

Rear detail. Note how the mesh is loose and partly clogged with paint.

The tiger squadron. This happened to be my tiger stripe period.
2005-01-29
Starships
Salamanders from Silent Death, I think. I like this design, and it's relatively ok in the game too.
2005-01-29
Starships
Pharsii II. Out of scale compared to the rest of the ships, it's supposed to be just about the heaviest fighter money can buy... Note the small color variations - you can tell the units apart, just not very quickly.
2005-01-29
Starships
I forget what this model is called, but it's the KV-1 of Silent Death - overarmored, undergunned and butt-ugly.

2005-01-29

The tank is intentionally painted in a nondescript color scheme with bogus insignia. Oh, and note the scratched toolbox - the model isn't quite to scale it seems.

A Shryak shuttle.

And a Thunderbird of the White Tigers.
2005-01-29

Actually, I did not paint this bunch. When we were into Silent Death, I painted most of the stuff as usual. However, a friend of mine (who can actually paint) did a small number of them.

As these things go, the models found a new home in my collection.
2005-01-29

Sigh... I wish I was half this good.
2005-01-29
Starships
Well, not actually starships, but a lone beacon in an asteroid field. These are the original stands from Silent Death, and I hated them. So I bought the plastic flight stands instead and made these into asteroids.
2005-01-29
T-55
I think this was actually the first 1/35 scale model I've built.
2005-01-29
T-55
A couple of Cobalt Mercenaries stand on top of a new tank. The hatches appear to be ok sizewise, but everything else is too big.
2005-02-13
Jungle trees
Note for purists: They're NOT sold as palm trees. I actually did not buy these, they sort of came as freebies with lots of stuff. It says you can build four trees from a set, but that's only because there's too few stumps. Base them yourself, and you can build roughly twice that number.
2005-02-13
Crashed shuttle
Auto-correct my ass! The sheet ain't this red in real life. These are shuttle pieces from the Battle for Macragge boxed set, which is excellent value for money.
2005-02-13
Crashed shuttle
I actually have two of these. I friendly person gave me one as a freebie. Thanks!
2005-02-13
Crashed shuttle
This piece has a design flaw: it has no bottom inside. I solved this by glueing a bit of black cardboard under it.
2005-02-13
Crashed shuttle
The interesting question is, could you glean enough information from these pieces to build a believable model of an intact shuttle? The front and tail are easy enough, but the mid-section would need to be extrapolated.
2005-02-13
Crashed shuttle
And here's a peek at the fusion core.
2005-02-13
Crashed shuttle
The other wing section. Heretically, I chose to use red trim instead of the blue and black in the box art. In addition, the hull gray has a slight yellow tint, though that might be hard to see in the photos.
2005-06-28
Pilot
Oopsie, this is the last of the Macragge stuff. I tried writing on the thing he carries, but the varnish made it all fuzzy.

Wreck
I had this Hind-D semi-assembled for a looong time. I finally decided to do something with it.
2005-08-20
Wreck
But since I built it really crappy and it's wrong scale anyway, made it into a wreck. The tail was already missing, I sawed the body in half.
2005-08-20
Wreck
I painted the crew compartment maybe 15 years ago.
2005-08-20
Wreck
The green color stems from the simple fact that I just happened to have that color in a spray can.
2005-08-20

The sand may seem a bit odd, but it's there to hide some god-awful seams.
2005-12-21
AT-AT
This is a really sucky AMT/ERTL model I built many many years ago.
2005-12-21
AT-AT
It had been sitting in my storage gathering dust. I decided to give it to a friend as a gift, so I had to take a few pictures before letting it go.
2005-12-21
AT-AT
For some reason I just had to plaster it with a variety of decals...
2005-12-21
AT-AT
Argh! Look at that seam! Horrible...
2005-12-21
AT-AT
The plastic is very soft and the detail on small parts is pretty blurry. Not as blurry as this shot, though...
2006-07-11
Kryomek
My Kryomek finally finished! I had these sitting on my desk for a very very long time. I really like the figures but for some reason I just couldn't find the inspiration to paint them.
2006-07-11
Kryomek
The obligatory overhead view. I must say these are probably my most uninspired figures to date.
2006-07-11

Some Alpha Hellions I think. Initially I thought about doing the same color scheme as with my tyranids, but these guys don't really have enough carapace for it.
2006-07-11

More Alpha Hellions.
2006-07-11

Warrior drone or somesuch. This figure is a bit hard to assemble.
2006-07-11

I went for the universal color scheme as with my tyranids, but in retrospect it might have been better to paint the gun in a different color -- it's not really a part of the creature as it is with the 'nids.

Copplestone Future Warriors cops. I quite like these chaps.

Well, 28 anyway. In the works.

Another batch of bugs. Looks pretty much like the first one, doesn't it?
2013-02-18
Bugs
I chose the same color scheme I used for my tyranids. It worked surprisingly well on these.

Bugs
Getting closer...
2013-02-18
Bugs
Well, it's evident down there.
2013-02-18
Bugs
This is what I was talking about. The fit of the lower body half pieces is hideous. They really should be puttied, but that would increase the already slow assembly time for these essentially bulk troops. Sigh...
2013-02-18
Bugs
I used the same basic method as with my tyranids lon ago...
2013-03-03
Chem Troopers
I got two blisters, which means I have two identical sets of five troopers. Not how dumb the hold on the pump-action shotgun is.
2013-03-03
Chem Troopers
These are Copplestone chem troopers.
2013-03-03
Chem Troopers
They're done in a sort of hybrid style. The main body is tradiotional wash/drybrush while details are 3-color.

The flame tanks are freehand, which shows.
2013-03-03

I would like to say this is the final batch, but I actually ordered another box of these.
2013-04-10
Bugs
I could just have photographed the previous batch again... but actually this batch has a slightly lighter tone. I didn't use quite as much black in the wash.

2014-01-07
Hammer's Slammers
Initially I intended to have the same amount of figures on each base but then I remembered my episode with the VC and put one less on the buzzbomb bases. This left a couple of figures over to do command bases.

The drone from above. The camo doesn't really work against a green ground, now does it?
2014-06-17
Drone Attack
This is a drone from Mongoose's old Starship Troopers line. I painted it because it has lots of flat surfaces for testing out the new stencils I got from Anarchy models.

2014-10-26
Terminators
These come from a variety of manufacturers I think.
2014-10-26
Terminators
There's also quite a bit of variance in the sizes.
2014-10-26
Terminators
I decided to base the heavy weapons with three figures per base, but that resulted in most bases being heavy weapons. Oh well, maybe I'll get another batch of lightly armed robots at some point.
2014-10-26
Terminators
The big guys bear a striking resemblance to a fan favorite robot... but I painted them silver anyway.
2014-10-26
Terminators
The basing is pretty dull actually. But somehow green pastures don't really work with these guys.
2014-11-23

I really don't like the machineguns, they are pretty stupid with these otherwise relatively realistic figures.
2015-01-22

I also cut off the bayonets because I thought they looked stupid.
2015-01-22
Imperial Assault
Perhaps I should have trimmed off the pointless drum mags as well...
