This is a really sucky AMT/ERTL model I built many many years ago.

It had been sitting in my storage gathering dust. I decided to give it to a friend as a gift, so I had to take a few pictures before letting it go.

The plastic is very soft and the detail on small parts is pretty blurry. Not as blurry as this shot, though...

Making the base. I grabbed an old jar of something, spray painted it purple and bent a length of 2mm wire to take the hippogriff.

Then I prepared a batch of Primodur 100 and poured it in. This would serve the double purpose of locking the wire in place and adding weight to the base. Primodur is pretty dense stuff, so the base weighs a lot more than the model, which is good for stability.

The obligatory overhead view. I really did intend to paint it like a real eagle, but I couldn't find a good reference picture I really liked so this is really something I just cooked up.

Incidentally, I did this model almost entirely in Vallejo colors, something I usually don't do.

Wait a minute! What's this? A hippogriff is supposed to be an eagle/horse hybrid, what the heck is it doing with paws??? The front legs are supposed to be bird claws! Trish and Aly Morrison, you need to retake your Mythical Animals 101!!!!!
