	Dwarf vs. Giant These pictures are really, really old. The date here is just a dummy value, these are realy from the mid-80's. Back when I was just starting painting miniatures, enamels were the only paints readily available, and I thought all weapons needed copious amounts of blood to look good.

	Unicorn and maiden I made this a very long time ago as a gift to my girlfriend. The skeleton's missing an arm now, but I guess I did something right since I'm married to her now.
	Flintloque Elves on parade. I must admit I know next to nothing about Napoleonic uniforms, so I painted these based on the pictures on the game box.

	Water Nymphs A had this for quite a while and then I decided to finish it and give it as a Christmas present for someone. I just couldn't decide who to give it to. Considering the amount of work these take, most people are not very appreciative. So, I asked my wife. She couldn't say either, so I gave it to her.
	Flintloque These are from the Deadloque set, elves and undead.
	Gunfighter Macro focus depth is very shallow. The downside of automatics is that sometimes they don't do what you meant, like this one focusing on the revolver.
	Greek archers Again, mostly old style Foundry with the odd Essex figure thrown in.
	Greek centaurs These are old Ral Partha. Not very good figures, stiff two-dimensional pose (just one), but it's surprisingly hard to find centaurs that fit a mythical theme (instead of anything-goes fantasy).
	Greek centaur This one had a miscast shield, so I carved it into something of a crescent shape. I also bent the sword to make the figures just a little bit different.
	Hydra This is actually a Chronopia figure, Stygian Sisters of Tiamat.
	Hydra This is actually one of the first figures I painted (almost) entirely in Vallejo colors.

	Medusa This is a Reaper model. This shot came out rather fine, actually.

	Skeletons I've had these skeleton archers in my B-pile for a long time. As part of a desk clearance project I dug them up.
	Skeletons I think these are Alternative Armies models, but I could be mistaken. It was fun painting skeletons for a change. Maybe I should do my 100 Discount Hobby skellies next...
	Skeletons These are just basic undercoat - heavy drybrush - wash. Naked skeletons are great for beginners because it's really easy to get them looking good, and they have a lots of good surface area to practice shading and highlighting basics on.
	Skeletons I just wanted these out of the way, so I gave them all very basic, drab earthtone clothes. I guess most clothes would look that way after a few years six feet under anyway...

	Medusa More medusa shots, this time in my studio. For some reason, this is the only shot where her face is in focus.
	Medusa I tried to get fancy with the pelt, but it's not too good.
	Medusa On the other hand, the yellow stripes came out ok.

	Medusa I tried the Foundry 3-step shading on the rattle, but I guess I didn't get the colors right - the two lightest tones don't have enough contrast.
	Medusa The base is made from hardboard. I was trying out my new circle cutting drill thingie (close relation to round killing thing).
	Medusa For once the overhead view is useful. This is NOT the way I intended the pattern to come out... but I managed to salvage it.
	Medusa I tried to take a few photos outside, something I haven't done in years. Unfortunately, the sun was already really low and it was virtually impossible to see anything in the viewfinder. Alas, most of these are out of focus.
	Armadillo I thought about giving it a neat pattern on the back, but the saddle obscures most of the back.
	Armadillo The sword was nearly broken, so I strengthened it with a dab of epoxy. Thus the new hilt design.

	Bloodbowl This isn't 40K, this is BloodBowl. For some strange reason, I bought one blister of mixed BB players. This is the only one I actually painted.

	Undead Dino Back when Jurassic Park came out dino-toys were all the rage. I bought one of those 'then and now' sets, with a live dino and a skeleton. This is made from the skeleton, I never used the live one.
	Black Dragon This is an old Grendel figure. It's very dusty, as you can see.
	Undead Dino The howdah uses a film roll tube as basis and the bones are made from sprue. I melted the ends with a candle.

	Lord of Change This is the classic Lord of Change model from GW. I bought and painted it when it was new.

	Robot Specialised siege robot from early days of 40K. It's missing the weapon on the back, because I converted this as a part of a fantasy battle project... that never got anywhere, as you might have guessed.

	Purple Worm This is an old Grenadier figure, I think. It sat on my desk for a very long time when I had a sort of painting hiatus going. Then I just finished it.
	Purple Worm Pretty simple really. Purple base, wash and highlight. A bit of detail work and that's it.
	Purple Worm I like the emerging-from-ground base. It doesn't look big enough to swallow adventurers whole, though.
	Blue Dragon This is an old Tom Meier figure he did for Citadel in mid-80's or so. I think it was actually called Oriental Dragon.
	Demon This is a Chronopia figure from their Devout line. I believe it's called The Irritated. Or something.
	Demon Unfortunately, I had this weird grainy primer, which pretty much ruined the entire figure. Sometimes it works just fine, but in this case it really didn't.
	Demon The figure was extremely difficult to highlight due to the grainy primer surface. If I had paid full price for this, I should have just stripped the primer and started again. But I got it from a clearance sale for a pittance, and I still have two or three left...
	Demon Back view. The original color scheme on the box art was greenish, but I chose the classic red demon look instead, to better fit with an upcoming project.
	Demon The flail was a real bitch assemple. The skull and chains are a separate casting. The contact area with the staff is just too small. I tried superglue, I tried epoxy, the damn thing fell off three or four times during painting. In the end I just gave up and glued it to the base.

	War Turtle This is based on a vinyl toy.
	War Turtle The howdah is scratch-built using matchsticks, plastic shields and the front piece is from a Grenadier war machine set.

	Undead Cavalry This is from a Ral Partha boxed set called Lord Soth's Charge, of Dragonlance fame. The figures are based on a Keith Parkinson painting, and they're very nice if rather brittle.

	Ethereals Ghostly figures from way back. No idea who made these.
	Doomed Legion Or Legion of Doom or whatever. In any case, this a collection of figures done by Denizen in the 80's.
	Skeleton Archers A mix of different manufacturers, Citadel plastics, Denizen, Ral Partha.
	Skeletons Classic sword'n'shield skellies. Mostly plastic Citadel.
	Skeletons Looks like one metal figure has been included.
	Zombie Dragon The windpipe and ribs are nice touches. Tom's a genius, to this date GW has not been able to put out a better zombie dragon.
	Skeleton Spearmen The spears aren't very numerous... I guess I'll need more.
	Undead Command Various undead hero types. Mostly Citadel metals though the standard bearer is one of the few Reaper minis I have.

	Undead Doggies Actually, these are Hounds of Tindalos from Grenadier or RAFM (forget which), but they make rather nice undead doggies, don't you think? Now, if I could only remember how I painted these...

	Complete Adventurer Sort of a joke about RPG characters who carry insane amounts of equipment, this guy has everything AND a kitchen sink! Should have painted it more colorfully, though.
	Undead A lone skeleton lost from his fellows.
	Pet Dragon This is a cute Grenadier model. It was originally painted in enamels and later partly repainted (the drybrush). Should have gone all the way.

	Nightgaunts I'm not sure whether these are Grenadier or RAFM. IIRC, Grenadier held the Call of Cthulhu license for a while before RAFM acquired it. Then Grenadier basically just relabeled their figures and sold them as generic horror stuff.
	Nightgaunt It's difficult to see, but the figure is not actually black, but very very dark blue.
	Hunting Horror Or at least I think it's a Hunting Horror... Grenadier and among the first miniatures I got. It's been repainted, you can see the original paintjob in the 'Trouble in the Snow' pictorial.
	Hunting Horror With such a huge bulging eye, I should have given it a slit pupil or something.
	Moomin Assault Squad These are actually made from vinyl keychain figures.
	Moomin Assault Squad Actually, I'm not too happy with the repaint. The moomins are so round and smooth that the wash wouldn't stay in the crevices.
	Pan Tangian tiger handler These are old Citadel figures they did to support the launch of the GW edition of Stormbringer. I curse myself for not buying more of these... well, the current elves are still somewhat in the style of the Melniboneans, but you just get anything like these Pan Tangians anymore. Actual Babylonians are close, but not quite the same thing.

It's so easy to fall into the trap of general stereotypes like 'horses are brown, period' and paint animals in way more monotone colors than they really are - the end result resembles those cheap plastic farmyard and jungle sets more than real animals.

	Werebear You can clearly see how it's been ruined by bad varnish. Now that I look at this, I can't help but wonder how on earth I let this go on for so long before ditching the offending varnish? I always thought I did something wrong and the varnish was really ok. Yeah, right...
	Big Guys A collection of ogre-ish figures from a variety of manufacturers.
	Skragg the Slaughterer This was originally a Citadel Limited Edition figure, but I think it was later relaunched as part of their ogre lineup.
	Skragg the Slaughterer This is done entirely in enamels, very very long ago. I still think it's among my best work, ever. Sad, huh?
	Skragg the Slaughterer Back view. You might not see it, but the base is actually rather bent. At the time I was using Bostik contact glue for fixing metal miniatures to bases. Bostik has a high content of solvents (it's a classic favorite of glue-sniffers) and those solvents work havoc on the plastic bases. And it's not even very good glue! Oh why, oh why I didn't just buy 2-component epoxy glues?
	Giant Orc A Grenadier model, if I'm not mistaken. You'll note that by this time I had shedded the 'orcs are vegetables' brainwashing by GW.
	Giant Orc You'll note that this is in the classic 'pig face' style of orcs. Too bad you can't get them anymore. I really like the musculature on this model and I think it ranks among my best work from the early acrylic period.
	Ogre This is a very old Citadel ogre from a set called 'Chaos Marauders'. I think I still have the booklet with the official stats - from the time Warhammer had letter codes for toughness. These miniatures were already very old by the time I got them, and this one sat rather long in the painting queue. The mace head had snapped off so that had to be fixed.
	Ogre You'll note that this is another model ruined by the bad varnish.
	Big Ogre This is the plastic ogre from the Milton Bradley game BattleMasters. I stuck on a Citadel plastic shield but otherwise it's vanilla. If I recall correctly, Citadel also made a very similar model in metal.
	BloodBowl Ogres I didn't play BloodBowl, I just got these because they looked cool.
	BloodBowl Ogre Small compared to some other ogres, but still towering over puny humans.
	BloodBowl Ogre This one was miscast. I fashioned the ball and chain from the remains of the miscast hand, a bit of chain and some epoxy filler, which is okay for filling in seams and such, but does not really have sculpting qualities.
	Thrud The original Thrud the Barbarian Limited Edition from Citadel. I really wish I had painted him better.
	Wolf This is an original Citadel LotR goblin woflrider wolf. The poor goblin lost his leg in my inexperienced hands...
	Assorted Adventurers A bunch of old figures, Grenadier, Citadel and some I can't place.
	Adventurers The guy on the left is a Citadel fighter, repainted. The one on the right came from a Kinder egg.
	Clerics Citadel and I don't know what. Both have been repainted at later date.
	Wizards Both are Citadel, but the one on the right is an original LotR Gandalf. Rather good, especially considering it's done in enamels. Way better than most of my work from that period.

	Harry's hippogriff This book cover was to be the model for the hippogriff. It's called Hiinokka in the Finnish translation, I have no idea what the original name is.
	Hippogriff Assembled but the joints are not puttied yet. Very delightful to put together, old skool lead/tin compound, minimal mold lines, very clean casting.

	Hippogriff Then I prepared a batch of Primodur 100 and poured it in. This would serve the double purpose of locking the wire in place and adding weight to the base. Primodur is pretty dense stuff, so the base weighs a lot more than the model, which is good for stability.

	Skeletons These are the ten cent skeletons I bought a year or two back. This is also an experiment in dipping.

	Skeleton This is the initial test subject for the darker dip. For some reason it was much thicker than the other color, I had to wipe most of it off with a brush.

	Skeletons Lots of them, 51 to be precise. It turns out I wasn't shorted on the 10-cent skeletons after all, I had one bag with 49 and one with 51. And it could be just that I put one back in the wrong bag.
